When purchasing a campground, mobile home park or any type of property serviced by septic systems, you should ask the seller to provide you with the certificates of approval for the systems. In lieu of a C of A, you should ask for all the design criteria, engineering drawings etc that were approved by the governing authority at the time the systems were installed. In many cases this information will not be available as it has been lost over time either by the owner or by the governing authority. In some cases, and with some work, you will be able to find archived information but if you cannot then you should expect to spend some money to have them inspected by an engineer. Obtaining this information or inspection is important to a buyer. You do not want to purchase a property and then find out that there are several thousands of dollars that must be spent to bring existing septic sytems up to standards.
